Billy Joel - The Longest Time
The Longest Time was the 4th single released on the 1983 Billy Joel album An Innocent Man and the song wasn't a single until 1984. It is a do-wop number with Billy doing 14 vocal tracks which are all mixed together along with a bass line, high hats, and snapping fingers to produce the final song.

The Verve Pipe - The Freshman
Released in 1996 (15 years ago... now I feel old) by The Verve Pipe, The Freshman is a take of a young couple that gets pregnant, has an abortion and then feels guilt stricken to the point that she kills herself with an overdose. The suicide never actually happened but the story of the abortion is based on real events in the artist's life. In the end the song is basically saying "we were all kids (freshman) at one time in our lives, we all make mistakes, let it go."
Norman Greenbaum - Spirit In The Sky
It's time for some classic rock! Spirit In The Sky was recorded by Norman Greenbaum in 1969 and while it contains lyrics about the afterlife and Jesus, Greenbaum was Jewish and said that he had no particular religious intentions with the song. Spirit In The Sky topped out at #3 on the Billboard charts.

Citizen Cope - Let The Drummer Kick
The first time I heard this song was in the movie Accepted. I thought he was saying "let the drama kid die", but the line is actually "let the drummer kick that." The song is calming with a nice drum beat, a hypnotic piano melody, and a good bass line. Citizen Cope is an American musician currently living in Brooklyn, New York.
I have included two videos with this song today. The first is an amazing typographic animation but it only uses about half the song. The second video is the entire song if you want the whole thing.
